Competitions...

What makes people move forward, venture even deeper into the unknown? Competition? A lot of my friends who do well in studies often told me that competition is often the one making them strive to get good results. No competition means no 'kick' to study even harder. But what makes them think like that? Is it by competing they will feel much happier if they won. But what if they lost that competition? It's funny how people torment themselves to be the best in life, to be the most outstanding and thus hurting them in the process. If they lost, they will be deeply depressed about it, or anguish in other words.
Sometimes, human compete with each other to impress their bosses, hoping to have lucrative jobs. Even attending job interviews, those who are applying for the jobs will have to compete with one another so that they can have the spot in that firm. A very simple example is the renowned reality TV show ' The Apprentice '. Although we fight to earn a living but does it have to be that extreme till the extend of criticizing, mocking and demoralized our friends, not to mention best friends? It's happening now and then where cases of squabbles among friends especially in career. One of them lost to another 1, making them not satisfied thus this cat and mouse fight happened. The fact is, competing against each other is just another way of promoting hatred. In every competition, there is always a winner and a loser. The unlucky one earned the title of a loser while the other walk away with fame and pride and also recognition from his/her boss hence getting a better claim. What does the loser get? NOTHING, nothing but shame and jealousy. This is where criticism and conspiracy comes in, where the loser will be bombarding all sorts of worthless claims about the winner. Before that, let's give it a serious thought, if he/she does not involve in such situations, will all of this be happening to him?
Not only among friends, but among nations too. Take for example, X country wants to compete with Y country but failed in the process, and thus cold war happens, or even worse, war. The main cause for making them compete is to show who is the greatest among all, and for them, losing is not an option for them at all. So, let's just imagine what would the world be if it's just one small competition caused the world to meet it's doom? Wouldn't it be better if they did not compete at the first place and focus more on how to remedy their weaker spots? Some people thinks that they are flawless, thus organizing competitions to show how great they are, but to me, it's just a one day of fame and glory. What if he lost to a newbie the next time? Trust me, the shame will be double of what he get from being too egoistic about himself. For instance, Taufik Hidayat, a famous Indonesian badminton player lost to an Indian newbie, Anup. But lucky for him, he is still a respectable one.
Competition is like putting our pride on the line, if we lost, and that's it. And if we won, well, congratulations. For me, receding from a competition is better, although we are marked 'chicken-wuss' for not participating in that competition, at least we still can maintain our pride and of cos' respect as well. Many people have different perceptions about competitions, but this is what made me up till now. The utmost important thing to make sure we are flawless and strong is to get rid of our weakness and not showing only our strongest part in life~
That's all,
